Arizona attacked the Colorado Buffaloes in every offensive category known to man. In my preview I stressed that the Buffs defense could hold the Wildcat offense if they didn’t run out of gas and that’s exactly what happened. The Buffaloes held the Wildcats in the second and third quarters by playing great defense. The fourth quarter tells the story of a tired team. Here’s the breakdown of the Buffaloes losing by 7. Final score 38-31.
Buffaloes Defense
The Buffs brought consistent pressure against Arizona’s quarterback. The Wildcats Head Coach Rich Rodriguez made a change at QB by subbing Anu Solomon for Jerrard Randall. Randall is a dual threat headache for any defensive scheme. Although Randall was sacked four times, he racked up 283 all purpose yards and two touchdowns. Anu Soloman started the game hot, but the Buffs defense applied so much pressure that it changed the dynamic of the game. “He’s known to be a mistake free player, Coach Rodriguez said. He couldn’t get on track in the latter part of the second quarter. Which allowed me to make the change under center!”
Buffaloes Offense
The Buffaloes quarterback Sefo Liufau looked great! He played a mistake free game, but came up short. It wasn’t a lack of effort it, he just ran out of time. The make shift offensive line played well but gave up two sacks. Sefo Liufau finished the game with 28-43 for 339 and two TDs. The main problem for the offense was being able to construct lengthy drives. Trust me when they put it all together. The Buffaloes will be a good team!
Who`s Next
Oregon State is next so the Buffs will be on the road in hostile territory. This is a very winnable game for Colorado. As long as the defense keeps applying pressure on opposing quarterbacks, the offense sustains long drives and the special teams scores on makeable field goals, the Buffaloes can put together a string of wins.
