New York Yankees’ designated hitter Alex Rodriguez is having an impressive resurgent 2015 season. Even at age 40 (.275 AVG, 24 home runs and 63 runs batted in and 14 2B) going into Tuesday’s series opener with the Indians. I believe his being left out of this season’s All-Star Game left me dumbfounded.
Yes, I know the Miami, FL, native will always be tied to the steroid era and performance enhancing drugs. In my opinion, after being away from the baseball diamond for over a season and outside of Mark Teixeira (30 home runs, 77 runs batted in and 22 2B) and Brett Gardner (11 home runs, 49 runs batted in and 15 stolen bases) these three players have led this season’s potent Yankee offense.
With his success this season, I feel A-Rod should be considered for the 2015 American League Comeback Player of the Year Award. Again, I understand that he did not initially cooperate with the Biogenesis investigation and that his career statistics will have an asterisk by then once he decides to hang up his cleats.
