Despite having the worst record in baseball, it was expected that Ron Washington would return next season as manager of your Texas Rangers. However due to some personal issues, Washington surprisingly resigned from the position today. Bench coach Tim Bogar will be the interim manager for the rest of the season. “Today, I have submitted my resignation from the job I love – managing the Rangers — in order to devote my full attention to addressing an off-the-field personal matter,” Washington said in a statement according to espn.com. “As painful as it is, stepping away from the game is what’s best for me and my family,” as he continued.
Washington finished with a 664-611 record in eight seasons as manager for the Rangers. They won two division titles as well as two American League pennants resulting in the franchise’s only two appearances in the World Series. Washington is the franchise’s all-time leader in regular season wins and games managed as well as postseason wins at 18. “While we are disappointed, we accept Ron’s decision and are grateful for his many contributions to the Rangers organization over the last eight years,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said in a statement according to espn.com. “This has certainly been a difficult season for our major league club in terms of on-field performance, but we were looking forward to moving ahead with Ron as our manager in 2015,” as he continued.
Now that Washington is out, it will be up to Daniels to find the best manager available to lead this team going into next season. His plate is already full with needing to fill in several spots on the roster as well as hoping all the injured players of this season can recover and be able to contribute in 2015. This season has been something else and now with the resignation of Ron Washington as manager, it only adds to an already disappointing season.
