When the Puck Meets the Reels: Break Away Video Slot Machine
- Updated: November 11, 2016
Ice hockey is a very popular sport – especially in the North of Europe and North America – and it has inspired a large number of video games (not as large as football, mind you, but still). Most of these games were released on gaming consoles, though, often leaving PC players without any great ice hockey simulators. Major game studios often forget about PC gamers. Luckily for us, there are smaller, less-known developers who still provide us with a few games to mention. One of them is the Break Away slot, which – although it’s no match for the bigger games on the market – is a welcome addition to the gaming world.
Break Away is a simple, casual game inspired by ice hockey. It’s a video slot machine with five reels, three rows, and 243 ways to win. The game, available for free play at the Euro Palace Casino, has borrowed its look and feel from the world of hockey, starting with its background sounds and music, and to the symbols on its reels. Said symbols represent a variety of players, a referee, the rink, the skates, the helmet, even the ice resurfacer. While you play, you can hear the murmur of the crowd, and music playing – it feels like actually being at the stadium, waiting for a game to begin.
For a game this simple, Break Away sure has quite a few attractive features. One of them is its Rolling Reels feature, which it has borrowed from a series of popular “reactor”-style social games. Whenever a winning combination of symbols lands on the reels, the symbols break into pieces, allowing others to fall into their place. This often leads to another win, when the symbols disappear again, and again. These cascading wins can be quite profitable.
When three or more Puck symbols land on the screen, the game goes into “Free Spins” mode. As the name suggests, the reels will spin up to 25 times without touching the player’s coins, but the player gets to keep all the winnings. The Rolling Reels feature is active during the Free Spins, but it’s enhanced by an extra feature called a Multiplier Trail – with each win, the multiplier applied to the next one increases.
The game has more features to make it even more enjoyable, but I’ll let you discover those yourself.
Where to Play
Break Away, as well as hundreds of other video slot machines and other casino games, can be tried free (or for real) at the Euro Palace Online Casino. The Euro Palace has been around for years, offering fair, trustworthy gaming services to its players from all over the world.
