Things are not getting better for the Texas Rangers. Since June 17, they are 7-16, losing four home series in the process. The Rangers can’t seem to find a way out of the hole they’ve dug themselves in and they’re now in third place in the A.L West standings, six games behind the first place Los Angeles Angels. Now that they’ve lost another series to the San Diego Padres, the hole has gotten deeper.
Wandy Rodriguez took the mound in Game 1 for the Rangers. Pitching just 5.1 innings, Rodriguez allowed three hits, surrendered only one run, and struck out five batters. After nearly losing a 4-0 lead, the Rangers found a way to prevent the Padres from coming back and taking the lead. The Rangers took the victory with a score of 4-3.
Colby Lewis was on the mound for the Rangers in Game 2. In seven innings, Lewis allowed five hits, surrendered three runs, and struck out five batters. Unfortunately, this game didn’t finish the way the Rangers had hoped it would, as the bullpen allowed the Padres to score three runs in the ninth to take the lead. The Rangers went on to lose Game 2 with a score of 6-5.
Yovani Gallardo took the mound for the Rangers in Game 3. In just 5.2 innings of pitching, Gallardo allowed six hits, surrendered only one run, and struck out only three batters. Despite several opportunities to score some runs to increase their chance of winning, the Rangers were unsuccessful in putting some momentum on their side. The Rangers ended getting edged in Game 3 with a final score of 2-1.
The Rangers will continue their search on how to climb out of this losing hole. After the All-Star break they will be in Houston for a three-game series against the Astros. They’re still eighty games left in the 2015 season, but the Rangers must act now if they’re to earn a spot in the Wild Card.
