How You Know Her: The brand developer extraordinaire has one of the sharpest minds in the industry. And as she prepares for her biggest undertaking yet, The Weekender Dallas, Blitz Weekly catches up with the rising star.
How did you get started in brand development?
I was actually going to school for psychology and I ending up meeting a woman who mentored me and she showed me that it wasn’t the right career path for me. I added advertising [to my course of study] and I did a couple internships. I ended up doing an internship for Pro-Line and worked with the brand management team over there helping them launch the hair care line. I fell into my career and it has been very fruitful for me. I have been in brand development for more than 12 years.
How did the Weekender Dallas come about?
I work with a lot of luxury and high-end brands and I go to all the major beauty shows and there wasn’t really anything that catered to the high-end luxury market that was direct to consumer. So, I decided to throw an idea on the wall and create a concept that was very different to Dallas.
What does The Weekender Dallas add to the city?
There’s a lot happening in Dallas in the beauty, fashion and art world. Dallas is really becoming a focal point and a development hub for many beauty brands, fashion designers, and art. If you look at the Fashionistas and all the things that are happening with the independent designers there is so much ingenuity. Then we have the artist’s world and we are starting to see more galleries pop up more art oriented events. There are more beauty companies now. People in Dallas are wanting to launch some major lines: Jack Black, Hard Night Good Moring, and [c.Booth]. Dallas is becoming the new New York.
