The Broncos pulled out an impressive win in Detroit. Who would have thought that merging the pistol offense with the running game would work. I think its a brilliant idea. They can run from this formation and Peyton Manning can pass from it too. Let’s look at the numbers: Broncos rushed for 41 yards, which was not all that good, but Manning passed for 313 yards from the new formation.
Offense
The Broncos had 354 total yards and the Lions had 290, but the Broncos have to find a way to cut out the turnovers. The offensive line has to do a better job of protecting the quarterback which they did in the first three quarters of play. But in the latter part of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th quarter they began to get sloppy because of fatigue. Pass-rushers wear the offensive line down every game which makes the O-line take short cuts in blocking strategies. Peyton Manning was 31/42 for 324, two touchdowns and an interception. C. J. Anderson had 8 carries for 18 yards. Demaryius Thomas has 9 receptions for 92 and a touchdown.
Defense
The defense did it again! Linebacker Brandon Marshall led the team with 10 tackles and safety Darian Stewart added 6. Cornerback Bradley Roby and safety David Bruton Jr. each added a sack for good measure. But the key were the sacks by DeMarcus Ware, Sylvester Williams and Shaquil Barrett which kept the Lions quarterback out of sync all night long. The D-line is the key to keeping the Broncos winning streak alive. I’m actually falling in love with seeing numbers 58 and 94 wreck opposing offenses on Sundays!
My take on the game:
Defense wins … PERIOD! The Broncos will continue to roll every week until someone can run or pass on this team.
