Have we begun to come out of the Ice Age that is winter yet? Hints of spring seem to be abound. This weekend belongs to St. Patrick so get your Irish on as the colloquialism goes. There’s lots to do, so let’s get down to business!
Thursday, March 13
Harland Williams: Our favorite Canadian comedian is in town for the weekend to make us laugh. You’ve seen him on TV and in the movies over the years and his wacky sense of humor is spot on. You know you want to see him, so just do it. Head over to the Addison Improv, get liquored up and bust a gut.

Dallas Mavericks Happy Hour: Be at On The Border in Addison by 5pm for this Mavstravaganza. The Mavs Dancers will be there (not hard to look at it) and Champ the mascot (which could be depending on your state of inebriation). What makes this even better is that current Dallas Mavericks Monta Ellis and Shawn “The Matrix” Marion will be behind the bar serving up drinks. Remember to tip well since a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Mavs Foundation.

Elton John: The man has been rocking it for over five decades. Yep, that’s a long time. He’s performing at the American Airlines Center and now is the time to catch his show. Expect “Rocket Man” and other classics plus new songs from his recent album The Diving Board. Do not expect any duck outfits on stage for this one.

Friday, March 14
Calgary Flames vs Dallas Stars: What a crazy week this has been for your Dallas Stars. Mike Modano’s jersey being retired with a victory over the Minnesota Wild, the postponing of Monday night’s game and Rich Peverley’s heart condition (serious thoughts and prayers for him and his family) to the emotional win over the St. Louis Blues less than 24 hours later in overtime on the road. Support the Stars for this home game. It means a lot. Puck drops at 7:30.

South By So What?! Music Festival: This is lucky number 7 as in the 7th annual festival put on by Dallas-based Third String Productions. Head over to QuikTrip Ballpark in Grand Prairie for day one of this three day event. Over 100 bands are set to perform throughout the weekend. Some of the more recognizable bands are: Taking Back Sunday, The Devil Wears Prada and Of Mice & Men. Why head down to Austin when you can support the local scene here in DFW.

Joe Rogan: What? Two comedians on the same weekend? Well Joe will be here anyway for UFC 171 and all that it entails. When he isn’t providing commentary on the fights and trying to keep Mike Goldberg from invading his personal space, Joe actually tells jokes. Lots of jokes. The kind of jokes that will make your drink come out your nose. Catch him at the Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie and then prepare for another day of South By So What?!

Slaughter House: Avoid the headaches and hassle of Greenville Avenue by spending time in a haunted house. Evil leprechaun’s could be abound. Take the Terror Tour in downtown Dallas’ longest running haunted venue otherwise you’ll have to wait until October.

UFC 171: Las Vegas comes to Dallas for this one. They UFC picked the perfect weekend to do it. DFW resident Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks and his Leonidas beard takes on “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler for the world welterweight belt. Plus there are some other good fights on the card. If you don’t have your tickets yet then expect to pay premium from the scalpers, but how often does the UFC come to Dallas? Exactly.

Ludacris: Chances are you’ll be attending the Dallas St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival. Chances are you’ll be wearing green. Chances are you’ll be Blitzed! Well stick around and head over to the Ludacris concert at Energy Square. Our buddies at the Dallas Observer teamed up with our buddies at Live Nation to make this happen…and neither one stepped up with free tickets for us. Bastards! Luda is definitely worth the price of admission and he puts on one helluva show for that Number One Spot…

Moody Magic Meets March Madness: It’s Selection Sunday and SMU is waiting to find out their seed and region for the Big Dance. It’s been over 20 years since the Ponies participated in March Madness. Mustang basketball players and coaches will be in attendance when Moody Coliseum opens its doors at 4pm. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show begins at 5pm and will be shown on the videoboard. We heard they sell be here and they might even have free t-shirts. Take that to the bank.

Sunday Funday Irish Edition: McFadden’s in Addison is opening at 11am to serve their world famous Hangover Brunch. Plus they love to watch NASCAR on their big screens (just ask). If you hangout all day you can partake in their $3 Green Beer, $4 Guinness, $5 Irish Whiskey and $6 Irish Car Bombs. If your girl is a ginger, she’ll get specials all day. If you happen to see a general manager with a long red beard like from Alaska Gold Rush, pull on it and tell him the Blitz has much love for him.

Goodguys 4th Spring Lone Star Nationals: Texas Motor Speedway is hosting this huge event. If you’re into classic hot rods, American muscle cars or custom rides then this is the place to be. Check out the different vendor and manufacturer exhibits, live entertainment and our favorite part: the swap meet. Trade your old intake manifold for some exhaust tips or something like that!
