It’s the last weekend before August hits which means summer is slowly coming to an end. What this means for you is that you better get out there and enjoy everything before you have to get back to work. In this edition of the Blitz Weekender we have exciting games, awesome music and tasty food, everything you need to enjoy a hot Texas summer.

Thursday July 25
Rangers vs. Yankees: The well-known New York Yankees are at Ranger’s Ballpark in Arlington and ready for a win, but the Rangers aren’t ready to give it to them. The Rangers started out the 4-game series with a 3-0 win, and hope to finish the series with one more. Derek Holland is expected to take the mound. With his consistent pitching all year, fans will cheer him and the rest of the Rangers on in hopes of one more victory before they leave their home ballpark. www.texas.rangers.mlb.com

Recycle Reef: Come join the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas as they educate the public on recycling in a fun way for the whole family. With their new exhibit, the Recycle Reef, visitors can help build an underwater-themed exhibit using only recyclable materials. For any members of the museum it is a free event, and for those who aren’t it’s only a small $2 entry fee. Those participating will learn the importance of recycling and using recyclable material to create their own works of art. Once participants make their own masterpiece they have the choice of taking it home to show off or leaving it in the museum’s exhibit for all to see and to inspire those future visitors. Either way, it’s a great and fun way to spend a family day learning something thing that will be a lifelong lesson. www.perotmuseum.org

50 Shades of Beauty Fashion: You’re in Dallas, a high fashion city and you know you’ve got to wear the newest trends. And now coming to the Loft at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas is the 50 Shades of Beauty Fashion Show. The Crème de la Crème Cosmetic and Fashion Agency is bringing all the coolest new fashions to a runway near you. Designers from all over including Don Colman, Sade Wooten, Megan Cortes and many more will showcase their best fashion. And at the end celebrate with a great industry mixer, it’ll be a great show worth the low price. Sounds of Mexico: The Irving Arts Center is putting on a great event for a low price that all will enjoy. Starting at 7:30 p.m. the Greater Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce Irving Sister City program will begin with the lovely sounds of Mexican music. The atmosphere will bring you back to Mexico or for those who have never experience the wonderful world, it will take you there. The celebration of music will showcase the different styles and variety of Mexican music. You’ll have to show up to find out which musicians will be there, but with their entertaining sounds and vibrantly colored clothes, it’s sure to be a great time, you won’t be able to control your hips. www.irvingartscenter.com

DREAM 2013 Autism Benefit Concert: The University of North Texas is known for their amazing music school and the talented musicians it produces. Well Denton is in no shortage of great musicians either and they are making an appearance at the DREAM 2013 Autism Benefit Concert. Following the 5th Annual Adventures in Austin Intervention and Research Conference will be the music starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Business Leadership Building. The benefit will only cost $15 and will go to autism funding and research. Some of the bands will include School of Rock, Goodnight Ned, Blue Bear and much more that will string into to the wee hours of the night. So for a great night of local music and a small donation to a great cause, UNT is the place to spend your Saturday night. www.coe.unt.edu

SauceFest: Frisco Noon Lion’s Club is hosting a delicious treat for all those around. Artisan Saucers will make their way to the Frisco Farmer’s Market for some friendly competition to show off whose sauce can be the best. You must get your taster plate today in order to be able to taste the first, second and third placed sauces, you won’t want to miss these delicious flavors of explosion in your mouth. FC Dallas vs. Stoke City: FC Dallas is back in Frisco and ready for its home crowd to cheer them to victory. Taking on Stoke City for the first time this season, Dallas needs this win having gone scoreless the last four games. They have struggled lately, not capturing a win since early June. In the last game against Montreal Impact, FC Dallas stepped up their defense leaving their opponent scoreless as well. Dallas has dropped to fourth in the West, but hopefully the team can rally together and pull out a much needed win. All FC Dallas fans need to get their tickets and hurry over to the stadium to encourage their favorite team, watching them hopefully grasp a win. www.fcdallas.com

Carnival of Light: Come out for the first annual “Carnival of Light Music Festival” brought to The Foundry Bar in Dallas by the 1 Million 4 Anna Foundation. The foundation was started in memory of Anna Basso in a fight against Ewing’s Sarcoma. Starting at 5 p.m. and for the next five hours, you can enjoy the lovely sounds of Dallas, including music from Reinventing Jude, Chris Freeman and many other performers. And the atmosphere will be great at the venue which was just named “the best new patio” by D Magazine. Plus a ticket to the entertaining show will get you two raffle tickets and a t-shirt, so it’s a great cause and a great time.

Dallas Symphony Orchestra: Enjoy the gorgeous sounds of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra this Sunday night; it’s a night you won’t soon forget. The 2013 Gala and After-Party will keep you entertained and excited all night. You’ll be surrounded by celebrities, city leaders and many other music lovers. And even world-renowned soprano Renee Fleming and Jaap van Zweden, the symphony music director will take the stage. Starting at 6 p.m. the doors will open and cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The concert will begin at 8:45 p.m. and the after party will commence at 10 p.m. and the fun will continue into the night. Team Fun Shoot: It’s time to start shooting, you and a partner can head on out to the Winchester Shooting Gallery in Fort Worth for a fun day of target practice. Grab your spouse, sibling, friend, co-worker, anyone you want and let’s start practicing. For two hours this Sunday night you’ll engage in fun target practice. During the target practice section of the night, your scores will be added up and winners will be chosen later. Once every partner has taken their turn, it’s break time and a time for all those fellow shooters to mingle and talk. After everyone has gotten their refreshments, it’s time to do some awarding.
