It’s definitely heating up outside now as August gets underway. Here in Texas, there are plenty of ways to stay cool while having the time of your life. Whether you’re listening to your favorite band or having a blast with your friends at the best local party, Blitz has got you covered. On this edition of the Blitz Weekender you can choose from many different events that will have you wanting more.
Thursday August 8
Maracas Cocina Mexicana: Maracas Cocina Mexicana in Dallas is celebrating their one year anniversary this Thursday. Only one year and the restaurant has shown a great customer following. They offer many appetizers, delicious Mexican style food and even a vegetarian friendly section of the menu. It seems like a great time for all, plus the anniversary offers live music from Chilo and The High Energy Band. And while the place is swinging with energy, grab a $1 margarita or well drink, they have many to choose from. Rankin Brothers: The Rankin Brothers Classic Music Revue is offering their fabulous music at the Palace Theatre in Grapevine. They will keep you singing along and toe tapping all night. They will celebrate their love for music through songs from Buddy Holly and the Beach Boys and more modern hits like George Strait, Billy Joel and Faith Hill. Matt and Mark, the brothers, and three amazing back-up singers will jam out for a great audience. Seats are going very fast, and floor seats are almost gone. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. and you will enjoy the next few hours of great live music. You will relive some of your old favorite classics and some of your new favorites, you won’t be able to get them out of your head.

Chicks Who Rock Showcase: Trees, located in the heart of Deep Ellum, is a great place to hear all the local and up-and-coming bands. This Friday is no exception when the venue showcases the great women in music. The doors open at 7 p.m. for the Chicks Who Rock Showcase and lineup will leave you speechless for the cheap $10 entry fee. The place will be rocking out with Nevermind The Darkness, Madwak, Electro Shock Machine, Etchmark and Lilith of Exile. These bands will have you singing and enjoying the music all night. Dream Bigger Tour: WE TV’s star of My Fair Wedding, David Tutera will be stopping in Dallas on his Dream Bigger Tour. From 7:30 -9 p.m. at the House of Blues, veteran party planner, Tutera will entertain his audience with plenty of fun and entertaining stuff. His big heart and enthusiasm will be showcased for all to see. During the fast 90-minute show Tutera will conduct celebrity guest interviews, oversee makeovers and conduct a question and answer portion. Plus, he will also share his tips on planning your dream party. Dallas Contemporary Party: For plenty of fun on this Saturday, get down to the Dallas Contemporary Party from noon to 8 p.m. The FREE event is open to all in the design district market in Dallas. The event offers so many things to look at including artists’ works, clothing and jewelry, vintage boutiques and home and accessory stores. There will be plenty of free drinks to keep you hydrated and many food trucks to feed you hungry tummy. While shopping around and enjoying all the sights, your ears will be delighted by the local musicians appearing. Dallas Museum of Art: Dallas is the home to The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece: Masterworks from the British Museum until October 6th. The international exhibit offers more than 120 pieces of artwork from the British Museum’s famed collection of Greek and Roman sculptures looking into the human form. Including the elaborate art from the British Museum, the museum will also present a model of Ancient Olympia as it looked around 100 B.C. Breaking Bad Watch Party: Breaking Bad seems to be the best show on, and there’s no better way to celebrate the beginning of the second part of the fifth season than with friends and family at the Granada in Dallas! Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show will air at 8 p.m. You’ll get to watch and laugh at what Breaking Bad’s Walter White, Skylar White, Jesse Pinkman and the crew are up to for this last and final season. Although it’s sad to see such a plot twisting and mind blowing show go, there’s no better place to do it than with friends. FC Dallas vs. LA Galaxy: FC Dallas showcased the second youngest player on the team in their last game at Seattle, Kellyn Acosta. Only 18 years-old Acosta made his debut in the 74th minute and although he wasn’t expecting the playing time he couldn’t have been happier. While the home team has been struggling to find a win lately, they did beat LA Galaxy earlier in the year. But it’ll take more then their skills, they need their faithful fans to back them up. Get out to FC Dallas Stadium and cheer on Acosta and all the rest of the team for that must have victory. www.fcdallas.com
