The Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial added some serious star power with the announcement that Adam Scott and Dustin Johnson will both be joining the field in Fort Worth as reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
“I’m thinking about Colonial,” Scott said, following Sunday’s final round 73 at The Players Championship. “Overall this week I just didn’t play good enough.’’
Now it is official. Scott has played twice at Colonial, making the cut on both occasions (2009, T64, 2011, T65), but not making any major noise on the weekend.
“I think No.1 is a nice feather in the cap and if I was never world No.1 when I was this close I’d be disappointed, but I’d also much rather win the US Open and not be No.1 at all this year,” Scott said. “That’s what it comes down to. There weren’t rankings back in the day and guys won a lot of majors and that’s how they’re remembered.’’
Dustin Johnson, known to non-golf fans as Paulina Gretzky’s boyfriend, is playing this week in Las Colinas at the Nelson, firing a first round 69. Johnson has one appearance at Colonial in 2008 with an MDF (making the original cut on Friday but not the secondary cut on Saturday).
Players Scott and Johnson are expected to join in Fort Worth include Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan, Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar and Jimmy Walker. The field is will be finalized Friday afternoon at 5 p.m.
