Two rounds complete at Yamaha Golf Cars/Lajitas Golf Resort Match Play Championship

DALLAS – First and second matches of the Yamaha Golf Cars/Lajitas Golf Resort Match Play Championship resulted in six of the top ten seeds moving on to the quarterfinal matches.

Tuesday morning’s quarterfinal matches will feature 1 seed Stuart Deane, PGA golf coach at the University of Texas at Arlington; Cameron Doan, PGA head professional at Preston Trail Golf Club (3 seed); Brian Norman, PGA director of instruction at Hackberry Creek Country Club (4 seed); Vince Jewell, PGA teaching professional at Woodbridge Golf Club (5 seed); Jeff Barton, PGA director of instruction at Preston Trail Golf Club (7 seed); Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Green Tree Country Club (9 seed); Thomas Devanna, PGA assistant professional at Tangle Ridge Golf Club (11 seed); and Dean Larsson, PGA head professional at Royal Oaks Country Club (15 seed).

Larsson is the highest remaining seed in the field after his second round victory over the 2 seed Jon Antunes, PGA director of instruction at Hot Golf, Inc., 3 and 2.

One seed Stuart Deane was the 2015 Yamaha Golf Cars/Lajitas Golf Resort Player of the Year and will look to capture his third Match Play title this week.  Deane defeated Robert McMillan, PGA director of instruction at McMillan Golf Academy, 4 and 2 in round one, and won his second round match 6  and 5 over Michael Martin, PGA teaching professional at Sinclair’s Golf Training Center, to advance.

The Yamaha Golf Cars/Lajitas Golf Resort Match Play Championship is being contested October 26-28 at Dallas Country Club in Dallas, Texas, a 6,561-yard, par 70 layout. The Championship is presented by AT&T Byron Nelson, Justin Golf, Lorente Golf and Wee Golf. The top 32 players on the final 2015 Yamaha Golf Cars/Lajitas Golf Resort Player of the Year Points Challenge were invited to compete in the season-ending major championship. Quarter Final Matches will be played on Tuesday morning with the semi-final matches following in the afternoon. The Championship Match will be played on Wednesday morning, with the eventual winner taking home $5,000 of the $32,800 Open Division purse.

For the fourth straight year the Championship includes a Senior Division. This year the Division was expanded from four to eight of the top professionals from the 2015 OMEGA Senior Points Challenge list competing for their own $8,200 purse. In today’s Quarter Final Matches all lower seeds bested the top seeds.  Tuesday morning’s Semi-Final Matches will feature #5 seed Ronny Glanton, PGA head professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course; Robert Singletary, PGA head professional at Grapevine Golf Course (6 seed); Gary Dennis, PGA teaching professional at Pecan Hollow Golf Course (7 seed); and Benny Passons, PGA Life Member (8 seed).  The final Senior Division match will take place on Wednesday, October 28 with the eventual champion taking home a trophy and a check for $2,500.
