Final Four favorite Virginia (30-3) fell short of expectations when their season ended with a 60-54 loss to No. 7 seed Michigan State (25-11) on Sunday.

The Cavaliers were led by the forward tandem of Anthony Gill (11 points, six rebounds) and Darion Atkins (10 points, 14 rebounds). However, guard Malcolm Brogdon scored only nine points on 3-for-12 shooting.

The Spartans were paced by Travis Trice’s 23 points on 7-for-15 shooting, including 4-for-8 on 3’s and forward Branden Dawson’s 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting.

Michigan State will play the Oklahoma Sooners in the Sweet Sixteen. Tip off is 3/27 at 9:07 pm CST.
