The month of May starts to build into a wonderful crescendo of things to do, odd jobs around the house, and of course places one hopes to be. The one time of year I wish cloning was legally possible.
In between wishing for a road trip to Houston (that will come later in the month) and a trip to the race track (derailed…with good reason) along with the final preparations for the week long local love fest we call the Byron Nelson…there is a little thing called ‘Rookie Minicamp’.
Going on throughout the good ole U. S. of A. among NFL franchises (and for the Dallas Cowboys) this means that a group of close to 15 rookies will make the trek to Valley Ranch and get a feel for what the NFL is all about before the start of OTA’s, summer camp in Oxnard, and then of course the Hall Of Fame game come August 4th onward.
Some of the names fans will be getting accustomed to hearing, we believe, are Travis Fredrick, Gavin Escobar, DeVonte Holloman, Igbinosun Ikponmwosa-or ‘Ike’ for short, Ronald Leary, Micah Pellerin, Joseph Randle, B.W. Webb, Terrance Willliams, and JJ Wilcox to name a few.
A weekend of two-a-days for the new kids in the morning and afternoon sandwiched in between locker room interviews and the perfunctory press conference by Jason Garrett. It goes without saying that ANY kind of camp involving football is enough to fire up the collective juices of football fans in Texas. Cowboy fan or not.
It is now the objective of this writer to provide a little bit of video to follow a given story. With that said I now present Gavin Escobar to you. Discovered that like yours truly Mr. Escobar also hailed from New Jersey before going the California route. He’s very happy to be here and a lot of people are excited to see exactly what he can do at the tight end position.
This sandwiched in between a visit to the Omni Hotel in Dallas, Texas for the 4th annual Pat and Emmitt Smith ‘Dancing With The Smiths’ charity event of dinner, dancing, and a golf tournament Saturday. Emmitt Smith left an indelible mark on the legacy of the Star.
It was also in 1990 when he too was that same rookie trying to learn the ropes in camp at Valley Ranch. More to come. Here at Blitz we are very excited about the inclusion of videos with said articles.
