The Blitz Weekender: May 16-19

Hey DFW! It's time to party!
Hey DFW! It’s time to party!

Here’s our guide to helping you figure out what you’re going to do this weekend. Enough said…

Thursday 5/16
Tigers vs. Rangers
– The road trip started off a little rough with back-to-back losses but the Rangers turned it around taking six out of seven with a sweep of the Astros for good measure. The Rangers open their current home stand with the Tigers. Verlander vs. Darvish. This should be a great pitching duel!

Friday 5/17
Main Street
Days – Friday is the start of three family-friendly fun-filled days in historic downtown Grapevine. They’ll have live music, a “Grillin’ Competition”, carnival rides for the little ones as well as wine and craft beer for the adults. The best part? Get there before 5pm for free admission.

HP Byron Nelson Championship – The annual golf tournament that is a must attend event at the Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas for all fans of golf will be in Day 2 mode. Watch defending champion Jason Dufner do his thing as well as some of the other big names in golf. Party in the Pavilion for the real fun.

Taste Addison – The Town of Addison magically transforms into a mini-festival for the weekend when it hosts its annual Taste Addison event. Parking is always free and one can sample the dishes that the local restaurants offer. There is also live music going on each night. Please note: lawn chairs, coolers and animals are not allowed.

John Witherspoon – Get your funny bone ready for a night of laughs when John Witherspoon takes the stage in Addison. You’ll remember him from the movie Friday as Ice Cube’s dad. Being funny is nothing new to Witherspoon since he’s been doing it from his days on WKRP in Cincinnati and Barnaby Jones. Get your air freshners ready.

Saturday 5/18
Comic Con – Time to bring out your inner nerd for this huge mecca. There will be vendors out the yin-yang with all sorts of cool collectibles that you wish you had, like comic books and action figures. Plus you have a chance to meet MacGyver. Cool.

Talent Under The Star – Think you have talent? You know like the ability to sing, have a band or a specialty act (juggling chainsaws?). Then head over to Fair Park to check out the competition so you can beat them next year.

White Out Party – Pay tribute to Mary, Queen of Scots and come decked out in all white to participate in this first ever event. There will be samplings of the good stuff i.e. vodka, rum and tequila. Throw in the epicurean delights offered by Dragonfly, Sambuca, Kenichi and Velvet Taco and a party is bound to happen.

Wildflower! – Get your blanket and prepare for all the fun that Richardson can provide. No wheels, no problem…DART will get you there! They’ll have food and drink for purchase. Besides where else can you go to enjoy The Reverend Horton Heat and Toadies in back-to-back performances?

Pam Ann in Cockpit
– Get some culture and head over to the Majestic Theatre to take in a live comedic performance of the “friendly skies”. Only after the show may you realize your true fear of flying. No children allowed. Period.
