The first No. 1 seed was eliminated from the 2015 NCAA Tournament when Villanova (33-3) fell 71-68 to No. 8 seed North Carolina State (22-13) Saturday night.
The Wildcats were led by Darrun Hilliard II (27 points) and JayVaughn Pinkston (13 points) but shot only 31 percent from the field.
Guard Trevor Lacey (17 points, six rebounds and four assists), forward Abdul-Malik Abu (13 points, 12 rebounds) and forward Lennard Freeman (11 points, 12 rebounds) paced a Wolfpack team that outrebounded Villanova 45-32.
