Nothing screams success louder than to start a season on the winning end before a sell-out crowd on a day we honor the heroes of the military.
TCU wanted to get off to a strong start. Gary Patterson was pretty adamant about that throughout the summer. Coach Patterson was also adamant that his modus operandi was such that if the offense could score quickly then the opposition would not be able to keep up with the no-huddle approach that proved to be very successful against the Samford Bulldogs on August 30.
Alas it is but one win. With bye weeks on September 6 and again September 20 and upcoming games with the Minnesota Gophers and SMU Mustangs it was a very contented Coach Patterson who addressed the media post game August 30. Here’s Gary!
One thing the 14-year veteran coach of the Horned Frogs also told us was that there may very well be an under the radar candidate to create havoc and success for the offensive side of the ball if utilized properly. Two touchdowns for “quite possibly the fastest kid on the TCU team” as coach Patterson liked to say. If you haven’t heard of this kid it’s time to acquaint yourself with #85. A sleeper and a keeper, I speak of Kolby Listenbee. We now check in with Kolby in his own words.
TCU had no problems putting up 48 points on Samford. 14 in the 1st and 4th quarters. 10 apiece in the 2nd and 3rd. Trevone Boykin got the nod to start at Quarterback after the decision was kept very close to the vest all summer long. A very productive 29 of 41 passing with two touchdowns in addition to one score on foot. One year removed from all the distractions brought on by Casey Pachall and too many games lost late, Trevone Boykin was very content with the way this team performed. Boykin also had some great things to say about his O-line. Here’s Trevone addressing some of those things!
TCU would accrue 555 yards of total offense while holding the Bulldogs to 143. Manning the defensive side of things was none other than Marcus Mallet. A ten tackle night with four unassisted. Mallet was the anchor for the Horned Frogs D in starting off 2014 on the right foot. And with that we check in with Sir Marcus.
It takes eleven men to help direct the ebb and flow of a ballgame. Throughout the course of the season it will be the objective to bring you as many faces and video visits as possible with the staff of TCU after each game win or lose.
Rounding out the lost of available players after a successful home opener was defender Mike Tuaua. No slouch himself as he also had seven tackles to aid in the win and allow TCU to create a touchdown after a turnover on Samford. Final player video visit of the night comes to us courtesy of the Junior Seau lookalike, Mr. Tuaua.
The action resumes with the Gophers of Minnesota. It shall be a matinee affair that will be covered from beginning to middle to end in the press box, on the field, in the Four Sevens Press Conference Room, and with a post game report to boot.
