The St. Louis Rams took a chance on Michael Sam. He performed well in the preseason with three sacks. The man has some moxie, just ask Johnny Football or watch the YouTube video yourself. Unfortunately for Sam, the Rams are stacked with quality defensive lineman and was cut by the team last Saturday. Basically 48 hours later one team’s trash could become another team’s treasure.

Don’t feel proud of the Dallas Cowboys organization for the wrong reasons, because there shouldn’t be any applause. The Cowboys shouldn’t be in the news for picking up a seventh round, undersized defensive lineman and putting him on the practice squad, but this team is going to field a lot of players on defense who may or may not be at Michael Sam’s level, which in itself, is very depressing. But he does possess a skill set that the Cowboys’ can’t ignore, and that’s the ability to get after the quarterback.

If the Cowboys were a better team, they probably would have passed on him like the rest of the league, but they aren’t. They might have to call upon Sam to help bring some pressure, and if he can do what he has shown he can do on the field, as well as he has handled the pressure off of the field, he should have no problem sticking in the NFL. As far as the non-issue of his sexual preference, at least on the Cowboys, his being here can be buried under tons of other happenings with this team, and should rarely, if ever, be brought up.
