Last week, the Dallas Mavericks lost all four of their games. The Mavericks are now 2-10 and they’re at the bottom of the Southwest standings.
The injury bug has been plaguing the Mavs this season. Dirk Nowitzki has been dealing with issues with his Achilles. Last Thursday, news broke out that JJ Barea would miss six weeks due to a tear between his calf and the tendon. It just continues to get worse for the Mavericks.
The last four games were against New York, Boston, Memphis, and Orlando. Two of those losses were by more than ten points. Harrison Barnes led the team in points in three of the games. Against the Magic, Jonathan Gibson, who didn’t start, led the team in scoring with 26 points. The struggle on defense is really hurting the Mavericks.
The next three games are the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. With the way things have been going with this team, it is going to be a long week for Dallas. It’s been rumored that Dirk Nowitzki may return when the Mavericks take on the Spurs tonight, but it still remains unconfirmed.
Though it’s very unlikely that Dallas will win any of their next three games, they need to make the best of it. They need to play the best they can. They can’t just give up after the first tip-off. In the next three, we can expect Harrison Barnes and Jonathan Gibson to shine. Perhaps Seth Curry, as well. And Andrew Bogut, too. With many key starters out, it’s time for Rick Carlisle to give some new guys a chance. You never know, they could be the answer you’re looking for.
Dallas takes on the Spurs tonight in San Antonio. San Antonio is currently on top of the standings with a 10-3 record. Can the Mavericks pull a miracle upset?
