After years of producing solid, entertaining super hero films and teasing fans with their infamous after-the-credits scenes, Marvel is finally going to give audiences the big hero mash-up that they have been waiting for with Avengers. With it still being weeks from hitting theaters nationwide and tickets are already selling out. The film is expected to pull in Dark Knight money, shattering box office records. But with a movie of this caliber, there is going to be a fair amount of skepticism. What if it does not live up to expectations? What if it’s just another Michael Bay-like action movie? Silence those groans and read on, for I am here to put minds at ease.
Marvel, having already put out installments of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America, realized that this movie will need to pull out all the stops – character moments, big action sequences, humorous banter – and that is exactly why they chose the perfect candidate for the position. Joss Whedon, a man who has received immense praise for his previous film and comic works, wrote the script for the film and directed the project. Such a thing is a big task for anyone and it may make fans a little worried about the overall product, but fear not, for Whedon is a master of his craft. Having written the most celebrated run on Astonishing X-Men in comic book history, Whedon is no stranger to writing stories that revolve around an ensemble. And with his directing credits (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Serenity), Whedon knows how to capture a scene and incorporate everything that it needs.
Marvel’s Avengers is the first of its kind, tying together multiple movies while also being a standalone affair. With Whedon at the helm of writing and directing, the movie will undoubtedly convey each scene perfectly. The master-class of actors will breathe life into these super heroes. But let’s get down to it people: this is the Avengers! I can analyze this thing all day, but in the end, this is the epic movie that we have all been waiting for. This movie is going to have some of the greatest action sequences in modern film making, all of which involve some of our favorite super heroes. So buy your tickets and see this movie as soon as possible!
