West Virginia’s run in the NCAA Tournament ended Thursday night with a 78-39 loss to top-seeded Kentucky (37-0).

The Mountaineers (25-10) were led by Juwan Staten’s 14 points, but shot only 24 percent from the field and were out rebounded 44-32.

The trio of forward Trey Lyles (14 points) and the Harrison twins  (13 points from Andrew, 12 from Aaron) paced the Wildcats, who shot 48 percent from the field and made 26-of-32 free-throws.

Kentucky broke Mountaineers’ coach Bob Huggins’ famed 1-3-1 press (known in the Big 12 as “Press Virginia”) with dunks and limiting the Mountaineers to four steals. Huggins is now 8-3 in his career against John Calipari.

Today Kentucky faces Notre Dame (32-5) in the Elite 8. Tip off is at 7:49 pm CST on TBS.
