We’re saying goodbye to February and welcoming in the month of March. So too will the snow and cold weather soon be gone making way for a climate that we can all enjoy. That being said, there’s still a lot going on in DFW this weekend. Without further ado, here’s our list of the coolest things going on!

Friday, February 28
Zulu Friday: As the Cajuns would say, Laisse les bons temps rouler – roughly translated as “Let the good times roll”! Fat Tuesday is right around the corner and though your aren’t in N’awlins to kick things off, you can still do it right here in Carrollton. Head over to Lue’isiana PoBoys for some smooth and sophisticated Jazz provided by the Thom Brownlee Trio. Have some good cookin’ while you’re at it. The best part, this venue is BYOB! FYI – Bring $5 for cover.

Chicago Bulls vs Dallas Mavericks: The Mavs have won four in row and this is the start of their toughest stretch of the season. Jae Crowder should be back from D-League ball to rejoin the team. Tom Thibodeau somehow has the Bulls still performing at a high level despite the injuries that have plagued his team. This first test for the Mavericks should be a nice barometer of how good this team really is.

Black Dutch Sioux: Head west to Lola’s Saloon in Ft. Worth for a very entertaining night of music. Apparently the band will state that this isn’t a concert, but we disagree. Enjoy the sounds of southern rock with a little harmonica thrown in. So if you’re into ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd then this is the show for you.

Saturday, March 1
Tampa Bay Lightning vs Dallas Stars: The Dallas Stars have come back from the Olympic break and are ready to “March to the Playoffs!” This is the second game of their three game home stand. The Lightning are currently sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division tied with the Montreal Canadiens. The man to watch on their team is Martin St. Louis since he leads the team with 56 points. That’s ok though, we’ve got Jamie Benn! Puck drops at 7:30.

The Departed: In the mood for some Red Dirt music then look no further. The band formed by former Cross Canadian Ragweed frontman Cody Canada, after they broke up, is in town to entertain you. Plus the food and drink at Gas Monkey Bar-N-Grill is good and affordable. The venue should be pretty packed and good times for all. www.gasmonkeybarngrill.com

North Texas Longhorns vs Dallas Trojans: What the hell! Football in March and no one knows about it until now. Sure it can be considered minor league football as if there was such a thing. The Longhorns are defending national champs of their league and have won it all four previous times. So while waiting for the NFL Draft to take place this will have to do in Plano at John Clark Stadium.

Sunday, March 2
Steve Trevino: We all love a good laugh and this is a great way to wrap up the weekend. Trevino got his start down in Corpus Christi with Carlos Mencia. One got a TV show and the other got to go on the road to perform in comedy clubs for a living. Don’t worry Trevino still ended up on TV. He’s here in town so head over to the Addison Improv and enjoy.

Scavenger Hunt: Looking for a way to turn Dallas into a giant game board? Urban Adventure Quest has created an interactive scavenger hunt that combines the fun of the amazing race with a three-hour sightseeing tour of Dallas. Guided from any smart phone, groups make their way among well known and overlooked gems of the city, solving clues and completing challenges while learning local history. Enough said. Now do it!
