“We felt like we had the best roster that we’ve ever started the year with, and we really, really anticipated a very favorable outcome,” said Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, announcing the firing of head coach Gary Kubiak. “To have this string of losses that we sustained is just totally unacceptable, and it’s not what this organization is about. We’re about winning and accountability.”

With names such as current Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, former Bears head coach Lovie Smith, Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin and even current Redskins coach Mike Shanahan being mentioned as possible successors, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips is in charge as the interim head coach.

“I think I have something to give,” Phillips said. “I can go into all the stats and all that stuff, nobody wants to hear those. If you look at the record, I think I have a lot to offer as a head coach.”

Phillips will lead the two-time defending AFC South champion Houston Texans (2-11) into Lucas Oil Stadium to take on the Colts (8-5) on Sunday, where the franchise is looking for its first win in Indianapolis (0-11 all-time). While the Texans currently hold the worst record in the NFL, they’ve lost seven straight games all by one possession. In spite of playing his worst game of the season, Case Keenum is slated to remain the Texans starting quarterback. However, if Houston hopes to have any chance to compete with the Colts, it will be from J.J. Watt and the defense keeping Andrew Luck and company in check.

As the season winds down and the Texans are in prime position to be “next year’s Kansas City Chiefs” by having a roster with talent and the top pick in the NFL Draft, look for the Colts to win with relative ease.
