UFC Fight Night: Dillashaw vs. Cruz will air this Sunday, Jan. 17 on Fox Sports 1 from Boston, Massachusetts. Lately it seems that the Fight Nights are usually cards that aren’t really worth watching. Most of the time they only contain a worthy enough main event while the rest of the card is poorly put together to the point that it should not even be labeled as a mixed-martial arts event.
It is true and I am a huge MMA fan, but I myself have only watched about three or four Fight Nights from start to finish as they are never really worth the precious time. However, this card is put together so well that it is a Fight Night card that you do not want to miss and here is why.
First off this card contains a great heavyweight matchup between two heavy hitters, Travis Browne and Matt Mitrione that have proved to the UFC that they deserve to be competing inside the octagon. With Browne being close to the top of the leader board and Mitrione close to the bottom one might argue that it is not a good matchup and Browne looks to take this fight with ease. It probably is true, but it could set up a big upset early in the year if Mitrione came out on top at the end of the fight. Another thing to consider is that the winner of this fight could even lead themselves into a title eliminator fight. Thus setting up a possible new title matchup in the heavyweight division.
Secondly there is the former Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis facing one of the lightweight division’s top performers in Eddie Alvarez, which looks to be a possible war that fans will soon witness. Why this fight looks to make this card more worthwhile is the fact that both of these fighters have had amazing careers that have lead them to many great matches and will now come face to face for the first time and prove why they are the best with the possibility of earning a title shot. The lightweight division is a weight class that seems to be popular among the fans and to make it more popular why not give the fans a fight in the making.
Lastly and most importantly, we cannot forget the main event, which will be a title fight between the current Bantamweight Champion T.J. Dillashaw and for champion Dominic Cruz. To make it even better this will be the first title fight ever aired on Fox Sports so fans watching at home will get to see it for free. Oh what a steal.
Anyways, this fight is said to be the bantamweight fight in the making and what better way than to air it live for free. With both fighters at the top of the leader board and willing to do anything it takes to prove that they are indeed the best bantamweight fighter to ever compete in the UFC they plan to not only walk away with the belt around their waist, but to make a statement that they are a force to be reckoned with. For how pumped both are heading into this fight, it appears that fans will be treated to a great fight only two weeks into the new year making this entire card that much more worth the while of watching rather than passing it up and waiting for the next good card to come to television.
With all that this card will have to offer it truly becomes clear that this is a card you do not want to miss. When this card airs Sunday everyone had better have the television turned on and have everything you will need before the event begins because once it does you will not want to miss a minute of it. It is on.
