The first 20 minutes of the game will make you understand that this game is ahead of it's time in terms of technological content. The team at Rockstar games created the early 1900 down to the very last detail including the drunk guys stumbling out of the saloon. The gameplay world is a wide open sandbox complete with night/day cycles and random weather generation. Imagine riding across the prairie and seeing a cloud of thunderheads with flickering lighting off on the distance, yep you're in for a major storm. It might be time to go play some poker/blackjack/liar's dice in the local saloon and ride out the soaking rain storm. The game is so packed with things to do and random gunfights that it might take you 20+ hours to get through the main story.
Launch trailer
The game play is tight and includes some pretty sweet Max Payne bullet-time slow mo that allows you to pick off multiple bandits while blazing through a hideout on horseback. The story is solid with top notch voice actors and includes one of the all time great soundtracks in video game history. The Grand Theft Auto mission dynamics (ride here and do X and then go there and do Y) actually work better in this game because a lot of the game is experiencing the world and coming across random bandits robbing people/hunting game/treasure hunting with obscure maps. This is one of the most extensive and deep games in terms of content and technological breakthroughs I've ever played.
This is without question my heavy favorite for Game of the Year so far.
Where else can you punch a grizzly bear in the mouth with a group of your friends?
Warning : Strong Language
The video quality is crap but the hilarity is not. "F**k that bear!"
