Santa Cruz tops Texas Legends 114-106

FRISCO, TX, — The Texas Legends hosted the Santa Cruz Warriors in their home opener.  The Legends finished with a strong fourth quarter but were unable to bridge the gap set by Santa Cruz, falling 106-114.

Ricky Ledo had 8 of his 14 points in the first quarter to rally the Legends. The lead changed four times and the Legends went on an 8-2 run to come back from a six-point deficit and grab a five point lead before ending the quarter in a tie.  The match stayed close through the second, despite the Warriors grabbing 12 defensive rebounds to the Legends 3, but the Legends shooting went ice cold in the third. Texas hit a mere 29% overall and 14% from outside to fall behind 67-86 before the final 12 minutes. Despite a strong fourth quarter push behind a combined 21 points from Eric Griffin and Renaldo Balkman, the Legends were unable to bridge the gap, suffering their first defeat of the season.

Doron Lamb led the Legends with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Griffin followed closely with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots, and Balkman (13 points, 14 rebounds) and Damion James (11 points, 11 rebounds) each tallied double-doubles.
