Rice vs. Baylor Preview
- Updated: September 16, 2016
Place: Rice Stadium Houston, Texas
Time: 7 p.m.
Date: September16,, 2016
Television: Fox Sports
Baylor University Bears 2-0, 1st Big 12
Rice University Owls 0-2, 6th Conference USA – West Division
Baylor can not get off to a slow start like they`ve done the last 2 weeks. Rice maybe a bit smaller as far as the size of their lines both defensive and offense. They make up deficits by having home grown speed at every skilled position. Rice has a pretty good leader under center with Tyler Stehling running the offense. Not only is he the teams leader in passing but he`s also Rice`s leading rusher. Let`s take a look on keys for another Bears victory..
On offense. Baylor has to establish the running game. Shock Linwood and Terrence Williams compliments each other. Both backs are averaging 98 rushing yards a game. The wide outs KD Cannon Kaleb Moore are putting up great numbers outside the numbers. Baylor has a dynamic offense that starts slow but scores big in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Quarterback Seth Russell has to continue with quick passes and tucking the ball to run instead of forcing the pass on the outside. The offensive line has to pass block better than what they showed in the earlier quarters from the first two games.
The defense has played stingy defense over the past two games. The Bears has to apply more pressure on the edge. Over the past 2 games the Bears gave up an average of 192 yards of total offense to opponents, but gave up big plays only to play catch up in the second half. The Bears has forced at least one turnover in the last 27 games under Defensive Coordinator Phil Bennett (88 INTs, 55 FR). Baylor`s GangGreen Defense has forced multiple turnovers in 42-66 games with a 36-6 record.
Prediction: I believe Baylor will give Rice the business Saturday night in Houston. Rice has a real chance in this one (If your playing NCAA Football 2016)! I don`t see Rice scoring no more than 9 points!
