After the Texas Rangers swept the Houston Astros, took first place and found themselves 2.5 games of Houston in the A.L. West standings, the Rangers needed to win their series against the Seattle Mariners to keep their momentum high, but it didn’t go well for the Rangers. The Rangers have lost their series against Seattle, and with Houston winning on Sunday, the Rangers drop to a 1.5 game lead.

Yovani Gallardo took the mound in Game 1. In five innings, Gallardo allowed eight hits, surrendered three runs, and struck out four batters. It was yet another terrible night for the Rangers offense, finishing with only six hits, and striking out a combined eleven times. The Rangers fell to the Mariners 3-1, ending a five-game winning streak, and giving Gallardo his second straight loss.

Cole Hamels was on the mound in Game 2. In seven innings, Hamels allowed seven hits, surrendered one run, and struck out twelve batters. The Rangers offense looked fantastic, as it finished with a total of 14 hits, and only four strike outs. The Rangers won big with a final score of 10-1.

Derek Holland pitched for the Rangers in Game 3. This turned out to be a disastrous day for the Texas Rangers. Derek Holland pitched only 4.1 innings, and allowed seven hits, surrendered seven runs, and struck out three batters. The Rangers offense again had a terrible day, finishing with four hits, and being struck out a combined ten times. It was in the fifth inning that everything went down hill for the Rangers, after they allowed six runs, and the Rangers couldn’t score any runs in the next inning to spark a comeback. The Rangers were dismantled 9-2 in Game 3.

With this loss, and the Astros winning, the Rangers have fallen to a 1.5 game lead in the A.L. West. The Rangers will have one more series against the Astros, so they need to be ready. The Rangers are now headed up to Oakland for a three-game series against the Athletics. The series begins on the 22nd with Martin Perez starting in Game 1 for the Rangers. The Rangers must keep winning to stay ahead.
