The Mean Green have won two straight games in an attempt to find a way to save their season. The Mean Green now stand at an 11-16 overall record, with a 6-8 record in Conference USA play. If they’re to keep the momentum going, then they need to continue winning.
My thoughts on their last two games
Vs Florida International: First half was just a simple game with both teams exchanging baskets, and it ended with the Mean Green trailing 37-35. The second half was a totally different ballgame. The first ten minutes of the second half were just like the first half, but then FIU began taking control and the Mean Green began falling behind. With six minutes remaining in regulation, the Mean Green were down by 12, but thanks to Deckie Johnson who scored 16 points helped to lead the Mean Green to a comeback 77-75 win. Johnson finished with a career-high of 32 points, with a pair of three-point shots in the final minute of the game. Jeremy Combs had 17 points with 15 rebounds, with J-Mychal Reese scoring an additional 16 points.
Vs Florida Atlantic: The Mean Green never trailed in this game. The Mean Green did have some offensive struggles, but they played well enough to keep the lead and win the game 70-62. Deckie Johnson led the Mean Green with 19 points, with Jeremy Combs scoring 17 with nine rebounds and four steals. J-Mychal Reese scored an additional 14 points, and Eric Katenda finished with a career-high of four blocks.
The Mean Green will travel to Louisiana to take on Louisiana Tech, which will take place this Thursday. Louisiana Tech is a good team, but the Mean Green have already scored an upset against them earlier this season at home. So this time Louisiana Tech will look to avoid the upset, while the Mean Green will look to strike twice.
There are only four games remaining this season, so the Mean Green need to continue to win if they’re going to be in the March Madness hunt this year.
