The North Texas Mean Green lost a pair of games this past week. These two losses really sting because the Mean Green are now 2-3 in conference play. They’ve dropped to 9th place in the standings of Conference USA with a 7-11 overall record. This is not a good place to be in for the Mean Green, and they need to quickly find a way out of this hole. They cannot afford to be buried deeper.

Here are my thoughts on their last two
Vs Marshall: This is was a bit of a humiliating game for UNT. After the first half, the Mean Green trailed the Thundering Herd 61-33. Despite a bit of a valiant effort in the second half, the Mean Green lost 97-78. The Mean Green made about 40 percent of their shots, and about 29 percent of their three-point shots. Jeremy Combs led the Mean Green with a career-best 28 points including 18 rebounds. North Texas struggled on defense, and were only able to come up with four blocks and only eight steals.

Vs Western Kentucky: The Mean Green desperately needed to bounce back from their humiliating previous loss and find a way to defeat Western Kentucky. North Texas dominated the opening minutes of the game, and even took an eight-point early lead, but then it became a back-and-forth game with both teams exchanging baskets. UNT trailed 41-38 at the end of the first half. They went the entire second half without taking lead. With less than a minute in regulation, they found themselves down 74-72, but the Mean Green just could not get the job done, and ultimately lost the game 81-76. J-Mychal Reese led the Mean Green with 23 points, and Jeremy Combs added an additional 21 points. North Texas made 48 percent of their shots, and 33 percent of their three-point shots. North Texas played better on defense in this game, but there’s still a lot of room for improvement.

This coming Thursday, the Mean Green will travel to Nashville to take on the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State University. The Blue Raiders are currently on a four-game winning streak. The Mean Green need to take full advantage of the next few days to practice hard and be ready. They need to start a winning streak of their own.
