Not even a 2 hour 42-minute rain delay can cool off Jonathan Lucroy.
The recently acquired Lucroy blasted two home runs while racking up 5 RBI’s to propel the Rangers to an 8-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Since being acquired from Milwaukee at the Aug. 1 trade deadline, Lucroy a two-time All-Star has six homers and 11 RBI in 11 games with the Rangers.
“I’ve heard how awesome it was here, awesome staff, awesome fans and an awesome clubhouse and all that is conducive to winning,” Lucroy said. “Whenever you have that kind of environment around you as a player it makes it easier to get better, makes it easier to work and it make it easier to win.”
With the win, the Rangers maintained their 7.5 game lead over the Mariners and Astros with 45 game remaining in the season.
Lucroy homerun binge helped Yu Darvish (3-3) earn his first win since June 3. Darvish struck out five and allowed five hits and two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.
He is now 6-0 against the Tigers in his career.
Lucroy hit a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run shot, his career-high 19th of the season, in the third. Both came against Anibal Sanchez (6-12).
Mitch Moreland and Carlos Beltran also homered off Sanchez to give Rangers fans everywhere a good look at how Jon Daniels and the front office envision this offense working.
“I know this team is capable of hitting and the fact we were able to put together great innings for Yu Darvish today was great,” Beltran said. “Right now we feel confident it doesn’t matter how far behind or how far in the game we are we feel like we need to continue to add. That’s huge when you have a team that’s capable of scoring early and late in the game that’s very dangerous.”
Sam Dyson pitched a scoreless ninth for his 26th save in 29 opportunities. The Rangers have now won 6 of their last 7 games and continue to receive the benefits from their two trade deadline acquisitions.
