The Barclay’s Premier league is arguably the best league in the soccer world. No matter who is crowned the champion, it reflects as being known as one of the best clubs in the world.

Since 1888 England’s top teams have competed to be crowned the best club and their fans can hold bragging rights over their fellow countrymen. In 1992 the top division became known as the Premier League and only a select few clubs have claimed the title since ’92. Manchester United (13), Chelsea (4), Arsenal (3), Manchester City (2), and Blackburn Rovers (1) have been the only teams to win it prior to the current the 2015-16 season.

One of the greatest sports stories unfolded right before our eyes and it was a magical journey to behold.

Leicester City is a club that has dipped back and forth between the Premier League and the Football League Championship. Usually it’s a select few clubs that interchange on being in the bottom half of the Premier League table and the top of the League Championship table.

In the Premier League, the clubs that have the most money buy the best players and are the ones that are hoisting up the trophy at the end of the year.

That whole narrative was completely flipped this season after Leicester City, who almost was relegated last season, will be crowned champion. To give you a sense of the mismatch of money flow between clubs, Manchester City spent more money on one transfer fee than Leicester City spent on their whole off-season of transfer fees. They are a small club in a small city that has beaten the giants of English soccer.

To put this win in perspective for non-soccer fans it is really difficult because it was so unexpected. They were a 5000-1 odds of winning the Premier League, even the USA Miracle On Ice team was a 1000-1 chance to win.

It would be like a D-2 college basketball team playing and beating Kentucky, Michigan State, Duke, North Carolina, Kansas and the rest of the top 20 in the rankings twice throughout a seven month season while also coming out on top in three in-season tournaments. It is something that not only people didn’t expect, but it didn’t even seem reasonable to dream about.

What happened in the Premier League this season is truly one of the greatest sports stories ever. There is no discussion otherwise to dispute the fact that what Leicester City has accomplished is truly extraordinary.

Not only is this great for the fans of this club who have waited 132 years for a top tier championship. This is great for the sport of soccer. It was always thought by the smaller clubs that the ultimate goal was to finish in the top six. Leicester City have now proven that no matter the size of the club there is always a chance to compete for a title.
