Denver Nuggets Overall Record: 14-24

The Denver Nuggets showed that they can play with some talented teams. The Nuggets went 2-1 last week and is beginning to show some life. Last week the team looked as if they wanted to lay down and take a beating every night while complaining to the refs about everything. Will Barton is beginning to show why he could be considered an NBA top star. But no one cares because he’s on a losing team. Let’s take a look at the three games the Nuggets played last week and I’ll give you a breakdown of each one.

Jan. 6 – Nuggets 78 – Timberwolves 74 – Win
Someone thawed Danilo Gallinari out of the frozen shooting streak was in for the last seven games. He played 35 minutes in the 4-point win. While scoring 20 points, he grabbed seven rebounds and added four assists. Jusuf Nurkic added 15 points and 10 rebounds. They were the only two Nuggets in double digits. So how did they beat one of the up-and-coming teams in the league? They played great defense all four quarters of this contest! Great win to start the week.

Jan. 8 – Grizzlies 91 – Nuggets 84 – Loss
This was a bizarre seven point loss to the Grizzlies. I watched this game to breakdown the Nuggets coaching system. The offense became stagnant in the 4th quarter because the team lost itself watching players make a pass and take ill advised shots. They lost the lead taking bad shots. As a fan you find yourself screaming, “Please take him out of the game!” I loved the first three quarters but the last made me sick. You can’t cheer for a team that stops fighting with four minutes left! I was shocked to see the team fight and just quit! Danilo Gallinari scored 29 points in 35 minutes. Will Barton scored six, but played great defense the whole game. At one point in the game Barton was the only Nugget rebounding on both ends.

Jan. 10 – Nuggets 95 – Hornets 92 – Win
Danilo Gallinari played like he was on the playground in his native country. His jump shot was falling from everywhere on the floor. I was in awe in how he defended against the Hornets big men in the post. Gary Harris looked as if he was back in college defending on the wing at Michigan State. He played 36 minutes adding 12 points and three steals. The defense won this game hands down. Also worth mentioning is that Darrell Arthur added nine points and three blocks in the paint. When the Nuggets play all four quarters they can compete with any team on their schedule.
