The Denver Broncos are on their way to the Super Bowl. Last week I told the world that the Broncos will beat New England and guess what? It happened! Sports writers, critics and gurus said the Broncos will lose by 10 and this was Peyton Manning’s last stand. The game was everything it was billed as. The defense showed up and the offense did too. Let’s take a look at how the Broncos won it at home by the score of 20-18.
Denver scored 7 points in the first quarter on a 21-yard pass from Peyton Manning to Tight end Owen Daniels. Peyton looked as if the clock had turned back in time. In the second quarter the offense added another 10 points going into half time. In the 3rd quarter fans began to panic because the offense sputtered, no points were scored as the offensive line looked tired and the Patriots defense picked up key sacks which stalled the Broncos offense. In the fourth the offense added 3 points which solidified the win. Peyton Manning has a chance to win another one and punch his card as a first ballot inductee to Canton when he decides to retire. I was proud of the effort the offense showed this afternoon.
What can I say that hasn’t always been said. Von Miller was a beast! He finished with 2 1/2 sacks and an interception that changed the landscape of the game. The defense kept Tom Brady frustrated all afternoon. Brady couldn’t find his rhythm and when he did it was too late. Brady finished with 27 of 56 for 310 yards, a pair of TDs and a passer rating of 56.4. The defense won another one for the team. “Defense wins championships!” said Wade Phillips defensive coach. The Broncos are heading to the big dance looking to add another Super Bowl to the storied history of the franchise.
