After losing the UFC Heavyweight Title in June of 2015 against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 188 Cain Velasquez has been training hard to get the belt back. Velasquez is also staying healthy at the same time to avoid any injuries and it looks like all that hard work and healthy game plan have paid off as he opened UFC 200 with a first round TKO victory over Travis Browne.
Before hand when Velasquez had been out of action since October of 2013 and did not return until June, almost two years later (against Werdum), fans thought they were going to see the Velasquez they knew to be at the time as “The Baddest Man on the Planet”, but in the fight he seemed to look rusty and not the man everyone knew, which seemed to be the reason why he lost the title for a second time.
Now that he just finished a dominating first round finish performance, it looks like he has proven to the world that the old Velasquez is back and ready to climb back to the top once again and reclaim the gold that he once held. Even that fact that Velasquez now feels extremely confident in himself that he seeks the winner of Miocic vs. Overeem scheduled to take place at UFC 203 in Cleveland, Ohio in September. He even went on to say, “I want the best guys out there.”
Well he is one of the best heavyweights to compete inside the Octagon of the UFC and he deserves to have the best opponents, but before he gets another crack at the belt; I believe he should face someone like Andrei Arlovski or a rematch against Ben Rothwell or Fabricio Werdum to prove once more that he indeed is the best heavyweight in the business.
If Velasquez accepts one of these fights and walks away the victor then I say give him the winner of Miocic vs. Overeem and let him show the whole world why he is a force to be reckoned with.
