Things are really starting to warm up here in DFW. Lots of activities going on. Throw in some festivals and playoff games for local pro sports teams and you’ll have lots to choose from. So let’s get to planning, your Blitz Weekender is here!

Thursday, April 24
Big D BBQ Battle: For those who love BBQ this is the place to be on Thursday night. Held at the ValleyView Mall in Dallas and the event starts at 5:00 p.m. 32 teams will have their wares on display for public consumption. Brisket, ribs and beans are the main items in competition. There are official judges but you can judge for yourself as well. Mingle and enjoy some cold brews from Lakewood Brewing Company. The Lower 40 will also be performing live. Tickets are $25.

Richard Rawlings Birthday Blowout: You know the man as the face of the tv series Fast & Loud. He also started up a little venue called the Gas Monkey Bar N’ Grill. Well Richard is celebrating his birthday here and everyone is invited. So stop by, wish him well, grab a cold one and have one helluva good time.

Jub Jam 2014: This rocking charity event was started by 1310AM The Ticket’s very own George Dunham. His band The Bird Dogs are the headliners along with performances by Bobby Duncan, Steve Helms, Michael Padgett, and The Gordon Keith Band. Yes… even the Great Gordo has a band. So head over to the Kessler Theater by 6:00pm to take it all in. Sleepy Time tea served promptly at 9pm (just kidding). Proceeds benefit the Senior Source.

Friday, April 25
Texas Food Truckin’ Fest: The Texas Rangers are off in Seattle for the weekend so a charity food truck festival is taking their place. It’s a two-day event starting on Friday at 4pm. See what the food truck craze is all about. Plus there’ll be activities for the kids. The price of admission helps the Tarrant Area Food Bank so bring a canned good to help the needy. Free parking, food and live bands. What else would you want?

The Pancakes & Booze Art Show: The concept started back in 2009 and the annual event takes place in several cities throughout the United States, so yeah, Dallas joined the movement. Check out the art, consume an adult beverage, partake in the All-U-Can-Eat pancakes. It’s only $5 and at The Quixotic World Theatre House in Dallas. Oh and enjoy the body painting while you’re at it. Prince will not be there.

Judy Chamberlain Quartet: We like Judy. She’s one of our own. Our former food critic is trying her hand locally by performing some great jazz classics at the Twilite Lounge (you know the Mad Men season premier party place). So this is a natural fit for Judy. Give her some love and take in a show!

Saturday, April 26
ENVISION 2020: Visualize over 5,000 students from all over the DFW Metroplex gathering at Southern Methodist University and filing onto Gerald J. Ford Stadium for a day of inspiration, celebration and fellowship. SMU Head Football Coach June Jones, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and DISD superintendent Mike Miles will lead the charge of the Urban You Turn organization event to present a faith based pathway to success for our DFW, “Next Generation.” It’s free, but you have to register first.

Taste Of Eastside 2014: Usually when you think of the east side you think of Pleasant Grove, but in this case let’s make an exception. This food festival is actually for showcasing the restaurants of Richardson. Admission is $1. That’s right! A whole buck. Feel free to bring more dollar bills for the girls from Bikini’s restaurant that will be there. They might actually bring you a beer in return. No web site info, but it’s at 700 E. Campbell Road in Richardson starting at 11:00am.

San Antonio Spurs vs Dallas Mavericks: The series is even at a game apiece and will probably grow chippy over the next few games. The Mavericks in theory should be up 2-0 in the series but managed to waste a great Game 1 effort in the final seven minutes as they shot about well as the Blitz staff. The Mavs look to defend home court and maintain the momentum gained in Game 2. Be polite to Spurs fans but don’t buy them any beer. Tipoff at the AAC is 3:30pm.

Sunday, April 27
Anaheim Ducks vs Dallas Stars: The Stars protected home ice with a pair of wins and will be looking to A: even the series to three wins or B: close out the series with a victory. We like Plan B. Things got testy at the end of Game 4 as time expired. Support our Dallas Stars and wear green, be loud and proud. Time has yet to be determined. So keep checking.

34th Annual Denton Arts & Jazz Festival: The Denton Arts and Jazz Festival is a celebration of the arts in a community known for embracing and nurturing music, dance, choral, drama and the visual arts. This event is free. No pets allowed so Fido has to stay at home. Coolers are not allowed in the Jazz area. Brave Combo is the headlining act for Sunday and will take the stage at 7:00pm.

Bondage Expo Dallas: Held at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Dallas, this is their second one ever. Learn about bondage, rope, rope bondage, bondage photography and much more. There’ll be speakers and vendors and other enthusiasts like yourself in attendance. So if you’re “Knot Tied Up” (really bad joke…) then you should attend.
