It was another rough stretch for the AirHogs, who have gone 2-8 in their last ten games. Luckily, the much needed All-Star Break occurs this week which will hopefully provide the respite needed to get the team on track. Five AirHogs were named to this year’s American Association All-Star Game held in Wichita, Kansas, including pitchers Geivy Garcia and Luke Prihoda, infielder David Espinosa, outfielder Robert Perry and infielder/outfielder powerhouse Greg Porter.
Porter—who has hovered near the top of the batting leader board all season and is currently batting .376—is closing in on his 100th hit of the season (he sits at 99) and is expected to reach the milestone at home during the AirHogs upcoming seven-game homestand, which starts Thursday. Meanwhile, he’s also leading the ‘Hogs with 60 runs batted in and 12 homeruns.
Despite the recent downturn, the AirHogs sit a respectable fifth in the league in batting, with two players listed in the league top ten (Porter, Espinosa). Not so positive has been the fielding, as the AirHogs tie for third in the league with errors—accumulating 82 on the season thus far—and the team pitching staff whose ERA has increased from 4.73 in the month of June to 6.61 in July.
With the three-day refresher of the All-Star Break under their belts, the AirHogs will kick-off their next series on Thursday with a four-game series against the El Paso Diablos, followed by a three-game series against the Pensacola Pelicans.
The AirHogs will have two notable guests in attendance this week to toss the ceremonial first pitches—Dallas Cowboys great Drew Pearson (Saturday, July 31st), and just announced—New York Times best-selling author Tucker Max (Sunday, August 1st). Max, who will be accompanied by his dog “Murphy” for the AirHogs’ last “Dog Day” of the season, is making his second appearance at QuikTrip Park.
