Last week I picked the Buffaloes to beat USC. I guess they didn’t get the memo. So, I took one on the chin. This week I’m taking the Buffs to beat ASU. Both teams are well matched averaging 39.7 (ASU) to 38.8 (CU) points per game. The Sun Devils are giving up 33 points a game to the Buffaloes 20.7 per game. Let’s take a look at what the Buffaloes game plan on both sides of the ball in order to get a win at home against the Sun Devils.

Offense
Steven Montez will start at quarterback for the Buffs. Although he’s just a freshman the future is now. He’s completed 62.9 percent of his passes, with 940 passing yards and nine touchdowns. Last week he was a bit shaken by the Trojan pass rush. His slow start cost the team a victory. Arizona State gives up an average of 404.3 passing yards a game. However, they only allow 89.3 yards on the ground. Phillip Lindsay will need to carry the ball at least 15 times. The Sun Devil defense will give up yards on the outside by stacking the box with eight players. The running game is very important this week. Junior wide out Shay Fields will get the bulk of the passes this week. The Sun Devils corners are young and prone to give up big passing plays.

Defense
The key to stopping the Sun Devils offense is shutting down the passing game. M. Williams has over 1233 yards through the air on 149 attempts. He has five touchdowns and four interceptions so he’s prone to giving the ball away. D. Richard is a very heady runner. He has 112 carries for 436 yards on the ground. The ASU offensive line is playing wounded right now. They have allowed three sacks per game in the last three contests. The Buffaloes should send pressure up the middle and disrupt the ASU’s offense on every play.

My Prediction
This will be an evenly matched game but the Buffaloes will pull this one off in the fourth quarter.
Final score: Buffaloes 27 – Sun Devils 21
